Join Jessica Muffett in support of Boeing Classic FORE Benaroya Research Institute Campaign

4450 from 24 donors 4000 goal met!
What is the Boeing Classic FORE BRI campaign?
For the first time, volunteers and supporters from the Boeing Classic are teaming up to create awareness and raise money for Benaroya Research Institute. We are all here for different reasons, but we are all working together to change lives.
How does it work?
Volunteers and supporters of the tournament can sign up to raise money for BRI. The more you raise, the most awesome prizes you are eligible to receive! And best of all, each donor receives a story about how their gift to BRI is changing real lives in Seattle and beyond.
Where does my money go?
Funds go to Benaroya Research Institute to support their important research to find causes and cures for autoimmune diseases. A small portion of each donation goes to support the online campaign.
Who can participate?
Although the majority of us are volunteers for the Boeing Classic golf tournament, anyone can join in and help us make a difference.
Are there prizes?
Yes, great ones! Click here to learn more.

What the Benaroya Research Institute means to me

Hi Everyone,

My daughter Lauren has five autoimmune diseases, each one a story of despair, courage and inspiration. When she was four years old she developed Type 1 Diabetes. Her body had attacked her pancreas, and she needs insulin to stay alive. When she was 12 she developed Raynaud’s Disease, very uncomfortable but not terribly serious for her. At age 16 and cheerleader, patches of her long curly blond hair fell out and she was diagnosed with Alopecia – her body had attacked her hair follicles. At age 18, a college freshman at Seattle U, she cried as she called to tell me she could not get out of bed, much less run to class. She was diagnosed with ankelosing spondylitis, an inflammatory joint disease – again, her body had attacked itself. At age 23, after years of periodic stomach pain, she was diagnosed with celiac disease – her body attacked her small intestine.

Along the way we learned that these are all autoimmune diseases, where something in your body mysteriously attacks itself, killing and destroying good healthy organs and cells. Then I learned that the commonality of these diseases – and of 80 others including MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus – were being studied at a high-tech, world-class research institute right here in Seattle. This was a lightbulb moment for me, and I decided to get involved and help BRI raise funds to find the cause and cure of all these diseases, and prevent others from getting them. I later joined the Board.

It is BRI’s extraordinary internationally-recognized research on the commonality of these diseases that makes them such a compelling research institute to support. Please join me in supporting BRI autoimmune disease research by making a contribution in any amount. Contribute $1000 and be my house guest in Princeville, Kauai for five days:)

About the Boeing Classic and BRI

img_canyonThe Boeing Classic is an Official Event on the PGA TOUR Champions Tour, which features the legends of golf 50 years of age or older. Jay Don Blake is the tournament’s defending Champion after a playoff victory at the 2012 Boeing Classic, which also featured record numbers of volunteers (1,035) and spectators (81,000) during Tournament Week. The winner of the Champions Tour’s 2012 Tournament Business Affairs Award, 2011 Players Award and 2010 Presidents Award, in the tournament’s eight-year history more than $4 million has been raised for the Heart Institute at Virginia Mason Medical Center, the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason and additional Greater Seattle Charities.

The 2013 event will be played August 19-25 at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. For additional information, please visit www.BoeingClassic.com.

Medical research conducted at the world-renowned Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) has resulted in major advances against 80+ autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and others.  BRI’s collaborative approach accelerates discovery and translates laboratory breakthroughs to the prevention, treatment and ultimately, elimination of these diseases.  Progress against one autoimmune disease is progress against them all.
