What is the Readathon?
The Readathon is a fundraising initiative done through Pratham that encourages kids in the U.S. to read more books and raise money to help less fortunate kids in India learn to read.
How does it work?
Kids ask their friends and family to sponsor them for a dollar amount for each book they read. The more books they read, the more money they raise.
Where does my money go?
All donations go to support Pratham’s Read India initiative, the premier program for teaching underprivileged Indian kids, aged 6-14, basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills. Pratham teams mobilize and train schoolteachers, Anganwadi workers and volunteers to work with children and their mothers outside school.
Who can participate?
Kids of any age can participate (adults too!). Children too young to read can have a parent or other older siblings read to them, and count those books.
Why participate?
Kids will read more this summer, which helps them learn. Readers will learn the value of helping others and participating in community service.
Are there prizes?
Certificates of Appreciation go to all readers. Prizes are available for readers who raise $100, $250, $500, or more. A Youth Leader Award will be give to the Readathon Coordinator whose team raises the most money.
What is a Readathon Coordinator?
Readathon Coordinators (RCs) are high school students who volunteer to lead younger teams of readers and guide, support, and cheer them on. RC’s learn good leadership skills, and their experience will look great on a resume or college application.
How do I know my donation will make a difference?
With every $500 raised, 34 kids in India will be helped through the Pratham Read India program. All donors will receive a story about a group of students helped through money raised in the Readathon.

100% of all donations will go directly to Pratham USA. SeeYourImpact.org even covers credit card fees to save money for Pratham. When you make a donation, you have the option to give an additional gift to SeeYourImpact to help cover their operating expenses.

Hi, my name is Amulya Gorti. I am 12 years old, and am going into 7th grade. I enjoy drawing, singing, listening to music, hanging out with my friends, and like most people my age watching T.V . Honestly I’m not that interested in reading but I hope through this readathon program I will start to enjoy it more. I think this is a great program because it helps kids in India be able to read, and it gets kids here to read more books. I know I haven’t been reading much after summer started so I think this will get me started. My mom has told me many times that I am lucky to be able to read, but I never really thought about it until now. During this Readathon I aim to read 7 books.

I have read
Natalie’s Secret by Melissa Morgan
Real Life Starring Us,
Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone by J.K.Rowling,
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K.Rowling,
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and by J.K.Rowling
Banner in the Sky by Ramsey Ullman

I hope you can help me by contributing a small amount.

Support a child’s right to an education!

Pratham is a grass roots organization committed to the task of removing illiteracy in India.

SeeYourImpact.org is a revolutionary way to help those in need around the world.

All funds raised in Pratham’s Readathon will be used to enable less fortunate children in India to succeed in school.

Just $14 provides a year of after-school tutoring to a child in India through Pratham’s Read India Program.

When you support a child in Pratham’s Readathon through SeeYourImpact.org, you are not only supporting primary education of disadvantaged children in India and making a positive impact on their future, you are also encouraging children here to develop an appreciation for reading, introducing them to the gift of giving and helping them to appreciate the excellent education available in the US.

Even better, you’ll meet the child in India who is matched to your donation!
