What is the Readathon?
The Readathon is a fundraising initiative done through Pratham that encourages kids in the U.S. to read more books and raise money to help less fortunate kids in India learn to read.
How does it work?
Kids ask their friends and family to sponsor them for a dollar amount for each book they read. The more books they read, the more money they raise.
Where does my money go?
All donations go to support Pratham’s Read India initiative, the premier program for teaching underprivileged Indian kids, aged 6-14, basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills. Pratham teams mobilize and train schoolteachers, Anganwadi workers and volunteers to work with children and their mothers outside school.
Who can participate?
Kids of any age can participate (adults too!). Children too young to read can have a parent or other older siblings read to them, and count those books.
Why participate?
Kids will read more this summer, which helps them learn. Readers will learn the value of helping others and participating in community service.
Are there prizes?
Certificates of Appreciation go to all readers. Prizes are available for readers who raise $100, $250, $500, or more. A Youth Leader Award will be give to the Readathon Coordinator whose team raises the most money.
What is a Readathon Coordinator?
Readathon Coordinators (RCs) are high school students who volunteer to lead younger teams of readers and guide, support, and cheer them on. RC’s learn good leadership skills, and their experience will look great on a resume or college application.
How do I know my donation will make a difference?
With every $500 raised, 34 kids in India will be helped through the Pratham Read India program. All donors will receive a story about a group of students helped through money raised in the Readathon.

100% of all donations will go directly to Pratham USA. SeeYourImpact.org even covers credit card fees to save money for Pratham. When you make a donation, you have the option to give an additional gift to SeeYourImpact to help cover their operating expenses.

About Me…

Hey!(: I’m Mallika and I’m 15 years old. This August, I’ll be entering the 10th grade. In my free time I really love to draw, write, hang out with friends, make Youtube videos, argue (or ‘debate’, as others would say), play around with computers, use the giant social media website: Facebook, and last and most importantly- read! I actually currently live in San Diego, CA- but I used to live in Austin and seeing how there’s no San Diego group set up, I might as well get in on the fun over here. I really love to help people so I think it’s amazing that this opportunity exists! I brightened up the second I heard about it.

Why I Think “Pratham” Will Help Kids in India, and Why I Want to Help…

Pratham, as I see it, is a grand opportunity to give. It’s a chance to help and lend a hand to those who really, dearly need it. I live down here where my pantry is filled with food, I can get water by walking ten steps and touching a button, and school is not enjoyed by those who go. We live in very fortunate places so we sometimes forget the misery some people are enduring. Not all people are as well off as we are. I mean, sure we all see Disney Channel’s ‘Friends for Change’, and we all think that we’ll help out but no action is ever taken. Until Pratham.

I think we need to reach out and touch the hearts of the people who need the daily neccesities that we take for granted. Food, is a luxury. Water, isn’t clean. Good books? Forget about it.

Reading is an adventure, reading is like following other peoples’ lives! Reading- well without it I would be a very sad person I love to read! And to think that others don’t have books to read from while America is filled with libraries overflowing with books, and India can’t even get decent books; well we need to change that.

We can start with Pratham, take the first step in a journey filled with helping people. Pratham *is* the first step. All we need to do is take it. And I will.

Books I Have Read So Far…

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Nora Grey, who finds her life in danger when she becomes involved with a mysterious new student at her school named Patch, who is revealed to be a fallen angel with a dark connection to Nora herself. Now she must unravel the mysteries surrounding her, Patch, and her strange yet dangerous attraction to him.

Edda by Conner Kostick
(Third book in the Epic series, sequel to Saga)

Everyone in the virtual universe of Edda is made of pixels-except Penelope. While her body is kept alive in a hospital bed, her ‘avatar’ runs free, able to go anywhere and do anything, including create deadly weapons for Edda’s ruler, her guardian, Lord Scanthax. When Scanthax decides he wants to invade another virtual world, Erik/Cindella from Epic and Ghost from Saga become part of the story-and soon the virtual universes are alive with fighting, alight with bombs, and brought together by three teenagers who want peace and understanding.

Support a child’s right to an education!

Pratham is a grass roots organization committed to the task of removing illiteracy in India.

SeeYourImpact.org is a revolutionary way to help those in need around the world.

All funds raised in Pratham’s Readathon will be used to enable less fortunate children in India to succeed in school.

Just $14 provides a year of after-school tutoring to a child in India through Pratham’s Read India Program.

When you support a child in Pratham’s Readathon through SeeYourImpact.org, you are not only supporting primary education of disadvantaged children in India and making a positive impact on their future, you are also encouraging children here to develop an appreciation for reading, introducing them to the gift of giving and helping them to appreciate the excellent education available in the US.

Even better, you’ll meet the child in India who is matched to your donation!
