Hi! My name is Isha and I am 10 years old. I am entering the sixth grade this September. One of my favorite things to do is read books. I also like to write stories, play flute, dance, draw and paint.
I want to help the poor, uneducated children in India get a good education. Even if I can’t help every single child, I do want to help some of them. They should be able to go on the lovely journeys in books, and travel the world without moving a single step, like we are able to through reading. So many of us modern day children take our luxurious Iives for granted, and don’t think about how valuable our education is. In India, a poor child could be doing chores in a dark, cramped house wearing dirty clothes, wishing to go to school. Think about the life of that kid. Good, filling food? Almost never with the wages their parents earn. Clean water? Maybe, if the day is special. Good books to read and a proper school to attend? Forget about it.
A lot of children wish to get out of school, hate the healthy vegetables given to them, and a good portion of us kids do not like to read the amazing books available. Look at our lives and compre them to the poor child in India. We have everything we need to thrive, yet we turn it all away and wish for what that child has, quite unknowing of the hard work that life requires.
I want children, rich or poor, to be able to experience the joy of reading. I hope you will help me make this possible.
