Moms for Moms: To Benefit Ugandan Women!
I’m raising money for Uganda Village Project, a US-based nonprofit that implements health projects in rural Ugandan villages. Uganda Village Project celebrated our 10-year anniversary last year, and in that time, we have worked throughout the rural Iganga district to improve community health and well being through access to services, health education, and prevention strategies.
Uganda Village Project has several projects helping mothers, including obstetric fistula education and repair camps, safe pregnancy and reproductive health outreaches, and access to contraceptives so women can make their own choices about planning their families. I’d like to ask your help with making a donation in honor of Mother’s Day to support our reproductive health programs so that we can empower women to keep themselves and their children healthy!
The funds raised will be used to hold 35 reproductive health outreaches for women in the 15 villages we partner with, so that we can continue this important work and give women more control over their reproductive health! During the outreaches, we will screen for cervical cancer, teach women about safe pregnancy, provide contraceptives so they can plan and space their families, and teach about how to prevent obstetric fistula. Uganda has the 4th highest fertility rate in the world, and according to the most recent Demographic and Health Survey, nearly a third of women in Uganda have an unmet need for family planning methods.
Please make a donation today because all women deserve the right to have safe pregnancy and the support to keep their children healthy. Any additional funds raised will be put towards our obstetric fistula and HIV programs which also aim to serve mothers in rural Uganda. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Alison Hayward, MD, MPH
Uganda Village Project Board Chair
Your donation will support health programming in Iganga District. This could be the purchase of mosquito nets to prevent malaria, holding an HIV outreach to educate and test community members, or sending a nurse to villages every quarter to provide family planning methods to women who otherwise have little access to contraceptives. Thanks to your support, Uganda Village Project can provide the education and tools that villagers need to stay healthy.
About Uganda Village Project
Since 2003, Uganda Village Project has been working with the people of Iganga to promote public health and sustainable development in the rural communities of this marginalized district in southeast Uganda. We work at a village-by-village level to address the most pressing healthcare concerns of each community, including malaria, HIV and STIs, household sanitation and hygiene, family planning access, obstetric fistula awareness and repair, and provision of clean water through shallow wells.
Uganda Village Project trains locally-elected volunteers called Village Health Teams (VHTs), and then works in partnerships with the VHTs, community-based organizations, and local government to educate and encourage healthy changes in each of the villages where we work. Our flagship effort is our “Healthy Villages” program, a village-by-village system that addresses the most pressing healthcare concerns of each community, including prevention of malaria, education and testing of HIV and STIs, improved household sanitation and hygiene, and access to family planning services. We also work with obstetric fistula awareness and repair and provision of clean water through shallow wells.
