What is the Readathon?
Pratham USA Readathon 2015 is a fundraising initiative that encourages kids in the U.S. to read more books and raise money to help less fortunate kids in India learn to read.
How does it work?
Kids ask their friends and family to donate money to Pratham for every book they read. The more books they read, the more money they raise. Learn more here.
Where does my money go?
All donations to the Readathon go to support Pratham’s work for child education in India. With the help of trained professionals and dedicated volunteers, Pratham runs pre-schools and after-school programs in many cities and villages of India so that underprivileged children can read, write and count at their appropriate grade level. Pratham needs only $25 to educate one child for one whole year.Pratham receives 97% of the money you donate here. 2.9% + 30 cents is charged by the credit card processing company. We thank SeeYourImpact for providing Pratham with its Storytelling Donation platform free of cost.
Who can participate?
Kids of any age can participate (adults too!). Children too young to read can have a parent or older siblings read to them.
Why participate?
Reading is good for everyone. Reading to help others learn to read is Great!Participating in this Readathon is an amazing way to do community service, and enjoy the benefits of reading at the same time – increased vocabulary, improved communication skills and the joy of helping others.
Are there prizes?
Yes! Trophies will be given to readers who raise $250 or more. A Young Reader Award for the reader who raises the most money and a Young Leader Award for the Readathon Coordinator who demonstrates strong leadership skills and whose team raises a significant amount of money. Certificates of Appreciation for all readers. More information is available here.
What is a Readathon Coordinator?
A Readathon Coordinator (RC) is a high school student who will lead a team of younger readers and guide, support, and cheer them on in meeting their reading and fundraising goals for the Readathon. A RC will learn good management and leadership skills, and can also enjoy all the benefits of being a reader. For more information, click here.
How do I know if my donation makes a difference?
With every $1,000 raised, Pratham is able to educate 40 children for one whole year. Readers and donors can read some stories of children who attend Pratham schools by clicking here

The county’s richest man has heard about Hermux’s work and hires home to find his lost son. back in Pinchester, Tucka Mertslin, is up to no good once again, and is out to destroy her competitor. Update #7

Let me start by saying thank you to the world’s most ah-mazing theater teacher in the world, Ms. Valerie Taylor. Thank you so much! And great job Anuj for reading another four fabulous, wild books!

Here are the details of my recently read books.

Title: Wonder
Author: R.J. Palacio
Summary: If you haven’t read this book yet, it should be first on your list! Told from the viewpoint of the many people involved in August Pullman’s story, it is a tearful, happy, and hopeful story that will have you running to the store for some tissues! This book is about how August Pullman transforms for a facially deformed, friendless, disabled kid, to a strong, handsome and friend-full. August has a rough life. The universe has not been kind to him. He has a extremely rare facial deformity and has had many surgeries to try and fix it. because of all his surgeries, he has never gone to a real school. Until now. August is on the wild, bumpy ride of middle school with his friends, “friends,” and family. Like how August’s sister says, “Auggie is the sun. Me, mom, and dad, are planets orbiting around him. True friends and extended family are the asteroids and meteors and things orbiting around him farther away. It has always been like this. But now, some of the planets, asteroids, meteors, and things, are falling out of orbit.”

Title: The Sands of Time
Author: Michael Hoeye
Summary: Our favorite watchmaker, Hermux Tantamoq, is wallowing in mystery yet again, sticking his nose where it really shouldn’t be. It all starts when his best friend, artist Mirrin Stentrill paints the community’s biggest fear. CATS! The community refuses to believe these creatures are real. But Hermux is different. A strange chipmunk appears after Mirrin’s art show of cats and tells Hermux that…. CATS ARE REAL! Hermux works with this chipmunk to help him find his lost cats library, to finally see if cats are real. Mirrin and beautiful aviator, Linka Perflinger (who, unfortunately, even though Hermux loves, is engaged to someone else), get tied into this mess and try to find the Cats’ library, before any sneaky, dirty, little rich mice do. Hopefully, it will blow up in those rich peoples’ faces. And maybe, just maybe, Hermux and the chipmunk will be able to find true love in their mission.

I also happen to be in the middle of The Secrets of Shakespeare’s Grave. Let’s see if you can beat me to the end!

Luckily, he was moving far away from that tree after his father got remarried. Things are supposed to get better in Connecticut but the creepy old woman next door was still mourning the loss of her late fiance – who died nearly 50 years ago in a bus/car crash. Her memorial is an old oak tree near the crossroads (where he died) that murders people as vehicles go by on the crossroads. And that tree is in Zack’s backyard. So somehow ghosts of the crash reappear in Zack’s life and convince him to get rid of the memorial, and he makes a new best friend – who is dead. Can Zack explode that silly old descanso or will he end up like his best friend?

Book: Time Stops for No Mouse
Author: Michael Hoeye
Summary: Hermux Tantamoq (Tan – ta – mock) is an ordinary mouse watchmaker. Well WAS and ordinary mouse watchmaker. Until a pretty mouse comes to his shop demanding an accurate repair of her beat up watch. Then things start to get bumpy. She never comes back for her fixed watch, but a sly, dirty rat does instead. So Hermux, being the courageous fellow he is, decides to follow this rat and end up in the nice, pretty mouse’s house, which is not nearly as pretty as she is. Hermux invests in a newspaper journalist’s assistance to crack the mystery. An original who dunnit tale.
