Every book I read helps educate a child in India
Hello Friends,
My name is Rish Rathinam,
I am participating in the pratham Readathon 2013 because I want to help less fortunate children attend schools and learn to read and write . Pratham is a non-profit organization that is educating millions of kids in India since it was founded in 1994. The organization is very well known and has won many international awards for its work in child literacy and education. Pratham USA raises funds and awareness in the US for this cause. Please visit www.prathamusa.org for more information.
We only need $25 to educate one child for one whole year. I am participating in this readathon because I truly care about educating kids in India and to help children in India as they aren’t nearly as privileged as we are. For example many of the children in India are very capable but their families don’t have enough money to send them to school. As a result of this their family falls into debt and they are forced to send their children into child bondage in order to pay off their debt. Child bondage is when children are forced to work mostly in carpet factories, in these factories they work 16 hours a day and eat one meal a day. This is very common in Indian villages so if we are able to send these children to school we can prevent this horrible practice and educate more children. With education on our side fewer children will be bonded into labor and the future of children in India will be bright. I truly believe that if we all give a little bit we can end child Bondage and increase child literacy rates in India. I would really appreciate it if you could generously donate to this cause.
I will be reading 6 books over the next month and a half to support this cause. Thank you for your time and please donate to my cause by visiting my page at
